150 Years

150 Years Anniversary Assembly and Morning Tea

Dear CNPS Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to invite you to a very special School Assembly and Morning Tea on Monday 20 November, to celebrate Carlton North Primary School’s 150th Anniversary. The celebration will commence with a School Assembly at 9:15 am, followed by school tours conducted by our Year 5/6 students and a Morning Tea in our School Hall.

Carlton North Primary School opened as a state school in 1873. It was named after the building that classes were held in: Carlton Stockade. The building was previously used to house prisoners who were working on a nearby quarry that became the school’s playground. It was also used by the Mental Hygiene Department. The building was in bad condition when Head Teacher Henry Jones moved the school into the building. When Jones opened the school in July there were 276 students enrolled. The Carlton Stockade building was demolished in 1877 and replaced with the current school building and the name of the school was changed to Lee Street State School.

The students, staff and community of Carlton North Primary School are incredibly proud of our school and the school is well respected in the local community. Thank you for being a part of our extended Carlton North Primary School family. Together, let’s make this celebration a warm memory that will last another 150 years.
