The Great Lee St Fete
Sunday 26 March 2023 10am-4pm (10am-11am low sensory quiet time)
It has been exciting to work together to make our fete as inclusive as it can be.
You may have heard that this year there will be a chill out zone (near the painted cow) called “The Paddock” on the Lee St side of school. North Fitzroy library will be there all day with air lounges, bean bags, and stories if anyone wants to have a rest! There will also be free Wi-Fi provided by North Fitzroy library in this space.
Also, 10-11am is low sensory hour – so all the stalls will be running, but with lower noise during this time.
Two other things we are offering this year:
Read a social story here about the fete here to help prepare your family for what to expect on fete day. If you have friends or family coming (who don’t go to our school), there is another version written for the broader community here.
The Great Lee Street Fete is a famous annual community event that delights and surprises all. Our next fete will be on Sunday 26 March 2023.
A Carlton North Primary School essential fund-raising initiative, the Great Lee Street Fete provides funds that are a significant part of the school’s annual operating budget to run high-quality class programs and maintain the grounds and buildings. Family and friends contribute to make the event possible and turning the Lee Street Fete into a carnival for one day of the year.
Kids and family alike, enjoy live entertainment, an animal nursery, talent shows, second hand clothes stall, book stall, toy stall, craft stall, food stalls, plant stall and a huge array of prizes from local businesses, including food hampers, wine, books, fashion, beauty treatments, café and restaurant meal vouchers and fabulous prizes from the silent auction.
This year you can expect French crepes, Sri Lankan curries, Balkan BBQ, okonomyaki, cray and crab rolls, devonshire tea, coffee and a good old sausage sizzle. The snow-cones, icy poles and fairy floss stalls are always a popular choice as well as the homemade lemonade, cakes, sweets and jams.
Many take time out to enjoy a wine, beer or a spritz or two at Lee Street’s ready-made bar. Kids are treated with heaps of fun with live music to fill the afternoon from local acts, along with face painting, dunk tank, chocolate toss, box maze and much more. Little kids are delighted in the nursery of animals and the teapot ride, while big kids ride with endless fun on the ever-impressive dodgem cars, giant slide and wild chairs! Also, 2023 is our first year of the all day chill out zone, plus a low sensory quiet time slot between 10-11am.
It is the best day of the year!
